About This Coffee
Since 1999, small-scale farmers in San Ignacio de Aprocassi Cooperativa established this cooperative to counter environmental damage and the threat to their livelihoods from mining. Today, Aprocassi has 634 members working together on more than 1,535 hectares and producing an estimated 80 containers of coffee per year. The cooperative is Fairtrade and organically certified and uses the higher prices it receives thanks to these certifications to support its member producers through various projects, including income diversification through beekeeping and the establishment of nurseries.

- In 1999 richtten kleinschalige boeren in San Ignacio de Aprocassi Cooperativa op om de milieuschade en de aantasting van hun bestaansmiddelen door de mijnbouw tegen te gaan. Vandaag de dag telt Aprocassi 634 leden die samen meer dan 1.535 hectare bewerken en naar schatting 80 containers koffie per jaar produceren. De coöperatie is Fairtrade en biologisch gecertificeerd en gebruikt de hogere prijzen die ze dankzij deze certificeringen ontvangt om de aangesloten producenten te ondersteunen via diverse projecten, waaronder inkomensdiversificatie door middel van bijenteelt en de aanleg van zaailingenkwekerijen.
