About This Coffee
The Getuya Station was founded in 1964 and is now operated by the Mwirua Farmers Cooperative Society. About 900 small farmers from the surrounding area deliver their cherries - mostly from plots of less than 0.2 hectares - to the processing station. After delivery, the cherries are selected, depulped, fermented under water for 15-24 hours and washed three times. Drying takes place for 6-7 days on raised metal tables. In addition to washed coffee, smaller lots are also produced as Honey or Natural. Aromas of brown sugar, cooked and fresh passion fruit as well as fine caramel notes. A juicy, intense acidity meets a clear, sugary sweetness.
