About This Coffee

Our Kenyan coffee comes from the Guama washing station, operated by the Baragwi Cooperative Society. It is located in the village of the same name on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya in the centrally located Kirinyaga County. The surrounding smallholder farmers, with an average of 86 coffee trees per farm, have their ripe coffee cherries processed there. The volcanic sandy soil, altitudes of 1,700 to 1,800 m, average rainfall of 1,050 mm, and average temperatures of 14-25° Celsius provide optimal growing conditions for the Arabica varieties SL34 and SL28. The cooperative works closely with coffee institutions, government agencies, and international organizations to further improve coffee quality and production and promote sustainable practices. The washing station was installed in 1974 with the aim of producing top-quality coffee and controlling the value chain up to shipping. This ensures that coffee farmers receive a fair price for their harvest and that social and environmental aspects are considered.
