Guatemala Las Moritas Rare Reserve Lot
About This Coffee
Don Higinio and his wife Aura Gomez bought their first small plot of land in 1988, naming it San Jose Las Moritas. Before the purchase of Las Moritas by Don Higinio, the land was strictly planted with tomatoes, beans, potatoes and corn. The first coffee seeds planted on the initial 1-hectare farm were given to Don Higinio by his father and the rest as they say is history. Each year the family would purchase a little more land for Las Moritas and seed it with different coffee varietals. While still growing tomatoes, beans, potatoes, corn and now Avocados and peaches, the coffee part of the farm has grown to a whopping 70 hectares of which 56 is dedicated to specialty coffee. Typically, the yearly coffee harvest begins in November at the lowest elevations and ends in April in the highest parts of the farm. Our specific lot was hand selected during our farm visit in March. We managed to get 152 pounds of what we thought was the best tasting coffee on the farm. Enjoy it while it lasts!
