About This Coffee
This lot comes from Finca La Bolsa in the municipality of La Libertad in Huehuetenango. The region lies at the foot of the Cuchumatanes, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. The mix of warm air masses and cool currents protects the area from frost and creates ideal conditions for coffee cultivation up to an altitude of 2,000 m above sea level. The region has calcareous soils with a relatively high pH value, which influences the acidity of the coffee in the cup. Coffees from Huehuetenango are considered some of the highest quality in Guatemala. La Bolsa is located between two mountains, creating a very stable, humid microclimate. Combined with the lime-rich soils, this gives the coffee a unique profile with a rich, syrupy body as well as pronounced apple and citrus acidity.
