Dwight Aguilar Masias - Yellow Gesha

About This Coffee

Dwight Aguilar is a force in Peruvian coffee, with multiple placements in the Peru Cup of Excellence. He is widely considered to be the first to cultivate the mysterious Yellow Gesha* variety. This was our highest-scoring coffee during our last trip to Peru, and it is a special one. In the cup we find a floral-forward profile of jasmine and lilac, soft tropical fruit, and melon. This is our first year working with coffee from Dwight Aguilar, though his coffees have been recognized internationally for several years. Dwight has been instrumental in advancing Peruvian coffee, and it is an honor to work with such exceptional coffees. *We had never encountered a Yellow Gesha prior to this season, but several producers in Peru are now referring to this distinct yellow-fruiting coffee by that name. While color mutations do occur in coffee, none of these lots have yet been genetically confirmed to be Gesha. We have submitted samples for analysis and are eagerly awaiting the results. In the meantime, we will continue using the name Yellow Gesha—with an appropriate asterisk.
