About This Coffee

This is the last harvest pass of the season from the prolific and talented Octavio Rueda. It has been fascinating to observe how each pass has evolved throughout the season—this particular pass is the most intense and dynamic. In the cup we find blueberry, hibiscus, and pink lemonade. We have been purchasing Pink Bourbon from Octavio Rueda for several years, and few producers consistently achieve this level of quality. This year, we are beginning a deeper examination of the genetic diversity within Pink Bourbon, seeking to understand why some lots express such distinctive profiles while others seem inherently limited. Octavio’s coffee remains an exceptional example of the variety’s potential, and one we are eager to continue learning from. Pink Bourbon is a relatively new variety being grown primarily in and around Huila, Colombia. The variety has been identified genetically as an Ethiopian Landrace, but unfortunately, we cannot be any more specific as to its origins until there is a larger genetic database.
