The Mukuyuni Farmers Cooperative Society, located in Machakos County, Kenya, is a shining example of high-quality coffee production and sustainable farming. The cooperative takes its name from the River Mukuyuni, with "Mukuyuni" translating to "next to the giant fig tree" in the local Kamba language, referencing a historical gathering place. Mukuyuni coffee is known for its bright acidity, complex flavour and well-balanced profile. The beans often exhibit vibrant citrus and berry notes, complemented by a smooth, lingering finish. They maintain clean processing facilities, use digital scales for precision, and invest in advanced pulping equipment to ensure consistency and high quality. Additionally, their commitment to sustainable agriculture includes crop diversification, incorporating figs, flowers, honey, cattle feed and poultry farming to support their livelihoods.
