About This Coffee

Located in the scenic West Valley region of Costa Rica, Allan Oviedo has been the proud owner of Don Joel Micromill for over a decade now, and manages farm operations together with his son Ignacio. Among ten siblings, Allan is one of five involved in the coffee industry. One of his brothers owns the neighboring farm and supplies specialty coffee to the Don Joel wet mill for processing. This is the third year we’ve brought coffees from Don Joel to the menu and this Chizo lot is one of two SL28 lots from this harvest season. Notably, over half of the coffee grown at Don Joel is this variety of Kenyan origin, also known simply as Kenia. In March 2023, Ruby Team Members Katy and Ashley had the pleasure of meeting Allan at Don Joel during their trip to Costa Rica. This Chizo lot, like previous SL28 lots from Don Joel, is exceptionally fruity. What makes this one stand apart is clean, crisp, bright, sugary fruits and florals.
