Villa Betulia Espresso
About This Coffee
In Acevedo, in the heart of the Colombian region of Huila, lies the traditional Finca Villa Betulia - home and life's work of Luis Aníbal Calderón and his family. Even as a child, Luis helped on his father's farm before taking over his own piece of land and developing it into one of the most renowned specialty farms in the region. His tireless commitment to quality, care and innovation has made him well known far beyond Huila. More than thirty different varieties are now grown on Villa Betulia, including classic varieties like Caturra and Castillo as well as experimental new breeds introduced in collaboration with Colombian research institutes and export partners. For this microlot, only perfectly ripe cherries are hand-picked, fermented dry for around 25 hours, and then dried for several weeks on parabolic dryers - a laborious process that requires the highest precision. Luis is not only a passionate producer, but also an inspiring figure in his region: he shares insights with neighboring farmers, conducts research on new varieties, and thus promotes the development of specialty coffee in Huila.
