About This Coffee

Located in Pratinha, Minas Gerais, Fazenda Chapadão is a 27.5 hectare estate situated in the prestigious Chapadão de Ferro volcanic microregion. At elevations reaching 1,215 meters, the farm benefits from mineral-rich soil and a unique climate that fosters late harvests and complex cup profiles. Founded by Mr. Ciro in 1989, the estate is now managed by brothers Gustavo and Rodrigo Alvarenga, who have pivoted the family legacy toward the specialty market under their brand, Artefato Cafés Especiais. Every lot carries a Designation of Origin seal from the Cerrado Coffee Growers Federation, ensuring rigorous quality standards, full traceability, and equitable farming practices. Nearly half of the estate is preserved as native forest. The Alvarengas cultivate varieties such as Catuaí, Catiguá, Topázio, and Yellow Bourbon. While natural processing is their standard, they frequently innovate with honey processes and in this case experimental anerobic fermentation. This has given this Red Catuai lot a fruitness and vibrancy not often seen in Brazil. Think papaya, raspberry and milk chocolate.
