About This Coffee

Kenya is renowned for its high-quality, fully washed coffees, with over 700,000 smallholder farmers cultivating 1-2 hectares each. These farmers are organised into Cooperative Societies, which manage 'Factories' where coffee cherries are processed. Farmers can choose their preferred wet mill, fostering competition based on quality, as higher quality fetches better prices at auction, leading to higher returns for farmers. The Thiririka Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) operates three factories: Githembe, Kiganjo, and Ndundu. With 1500 active farmers growing SL 28, SL 34, and Batian varieties in clay loam soil, pulping and washing before transporting parchment to Kiganjo for drying. Harvest runs from October to December, with shipping from March to April. This year we have purchased from Githembe and Kiganjo. This Kiganjo lot is an AA, the highest quality in Kenya. It’s a classic example of expertly grown and processed Kenyan Coffee with lots of citrus and berry acidity, complemented with a sweet floral aftertaste, a delicious taste of summer.
